Lowi

The 2008 James Madison Award and Lectureship of the American Political Science Association (APSA) has been awarded to Theodore "Ted" Lowi, the J.L. Senior Professor of American Institutions at Cornell. The Madison prize is given to an American political scientist who has made a distinguished scholarly contribution to political science, and it is one of the highest accolades of the profession.

The Madison award is presented every three years, carries a cash prize and recognizes a career of scholarly excellence. Previous winners include Robert Dahl, Gabriel Almond, Herbert Simon, Pendleton Herring, James Q. Wilson, Sidney Verba, Phil Converse, Ken Waltz, David Mayhew and Elinor Ostrom.

The award will be presented APSA's 104th Annual Meeting in Boston in August. Lowi will deliver the annual Madison Lecture at the event, and his presentation will be published in a subsequent issue of PS: Political Science and Politics.
