Giuliani is Cornell Senior Convocation speaker

Former New York City mayor and former Republican presidential candidate Rudolph Giuliani will address Cornell's graduating Class of 2011 at Senior Convocation, May 28 at noon in Schoellkopf Stadium, during the university's 143rd Commencement Weekend. The event is open to the public.

Giuliani served as mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001, when his leadership won praise for calming the city in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Despite leading in the polls early, Giuliani withdrew from the race for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination when John McCain and Mitt Romney took the lead. He has given indications that he will again run for president.

Since his last run, Giuliani has worked at a law firm at which he is partner and at a security consulting business he founded. He also appears as a television political commentator.

Giuliani graduated from Manhattan College in 1965 and from New York University School of Law in 1968. In 1981, he was named associate attorney general in the Reagan administration and in 1983 was appointed U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

In the event of inclement weather, Giuliani will speak at an alternate location. If the speech must be moved, it will be open only to students with inclement weather tickets.
