Cornell has named Sharon Marine, associate dean for external relations at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, as vice president for development at the new CornellNYC Tech campus. Marine will lead all fundraising efforts for the pioneering technology campus when she assumes the post Oct. 1.

"Sharon not only appreciates the importance of the entrepreneurial spirit, she also fully embraces the campus's mission to combine global academic leadership with real-world impact, through commercial success and through social good. We are delighted to have her on board," said Dan Huttenlocher, dean of the CornellNYC Tech campus.

"Sharon's success is integral to Cornell University, CornellNYC Tech and to everyone this new campus affects. We're very fortunate that we've attracted her experience and background in both New York City and the development profession. She knows the business and technology industry and has been a major part of Stanford's fundraising achievements for many years," said Charles Phlegar, Cornell vice president for alumni affairs and development.

"This is one of the most unique opportunities in higher education, and I am excited to be part of the CornellNYC Tech campus. It's a new concept in education, business and economic development -- and it will have a profound impact on New York City and the greater region for decades into the future. I am really looking forward to this," Marine said.

As associate dean at Stanford's business school, Marine was responsible for completing the business school's portion of Stanford's $6.2 billion comprehensive capital campaign by raising $884 million, which surpassed the original goal of $500 million.

She also served as director of development, including major gifts, reunion and annual giving -- which comprise about 90 percent of all development funds raised at the Graduate School of Business. Previously, Marine was the director of development, western region, for the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School.

Marine earned her bachelor's degree in history from Brown University.
