Swaying steel dragon parades across campus

Led by creatively costumed students, the guest of honor at Cornell's 110th Dragon Day March 18 was constructed by first-year architecture students. It was also a day out for the phoenix, traditionally created by engineering students to challenge the dragon.

Featuring mostly steel construction, the dragon was suspended from four towers mounted to a frame atop a Volkswagen microbus chassis that has been used since 1995 to transport the dragon on its parade route. The creature swayed from its moorings and had moving parts.

Young and old alike lined the streets, and university photographers were there to capture the revelry as the parade made its way across campus.
