Electrical and Computer Engineering Day draws a crowd

Electrical and computer engineering students, faculty and staff enjoyed plenty of sun and the chance to dunk their colleagues at the second annual ECE Day, May 14.

Hosted by the student-run Cornell IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), the relaxed afternoon event was meant to celebrate and promote Cornell's ECE program. Activities included barbequing, T-shirt sales, games and the popular dunk tank set up in front of Duffield Hall. Onlookers took turns trying to soak volunteers with the accurate throw of a baseball. Among the dunkees were Tsuhan Chen, director of ECE, and Bruce Land, senior lecturer.

Part of the day was devoted to a master of engineering and undergraduate poster competition, for which prizes were awarded. In first place, winning the Director's Prize, were Allison Smyth, Adam Papamarcos and Kerran Flanagan, who received MacBooks; second-place winners of the Newman Prize were Sean Chen, Evan Levine, Nick Annetta, Matt Kinne, Garret Phillips, Lingqing Gu and Zhaoxin Niu, who received iPads; and placing third with the Lockheed Martin Prize were Darbin Reyes and Peter Greczner, who received iPods.
