Dennis Miller, chair of the Department of Food Science, and Martin Wiedmann, professor in the department, will be among 22 people inducted into the International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST) at the 16th World Congress of Food Science and Technology this August in Iguassu Falls, Brazil.

They will join the ranks of many of their colleagues -- including Kathryn Boor, Malcolm Bourne, C.Y. Lee, Rui Hai Lui, Andy Rao and Syed Rizvi -- making Cornell the leader in the number of academy fellows in one institution. Daryl Lund, the former Ronald P. Lynch Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, is the 2010-12 president of the IAFoST, and president-elect Walter Spiess was a postdoctoral researcher at Cornell. Liu serves on the Executive Council of IAFoST.

IAFoST was established in 1998 by the International Union of Food Science and Technology as a world body that recognizes scientists who have made outstanding contributions to food science and technology. Fewer than 30 new fellows can be elected in any two-year cycle, and current membership includes fewer than 150 scientists from 44 countries.
