Remembrance service for graduate student Lucas Wooster set for Nov. 4

Lucas Wooster, 32, a Ph.D. candidate in horticulture living on Stewart Avenue, died early Sunday morning, Nov. 1, in the town of Ithaca. His death is being investigated by the New York State Police, but no foul play is suspected.

A campus remembrance service, open to all and planned in coordination with Wooster's family, is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 4:30 p.m. in the One World Room of Anabel Taylor Hall.

"This is very sad news," said Cornell Graduate School Dean Alison Power. "Lucas was a valued and engaged member of our campus community, and he will be sorely missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends."

Wooster came to Cornell as a graduate student in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in 2004 and was active in several student organizations. His academic focus was on the selection of urban trees for drought tolerance, and he was a popular extension speaker on urban landscape establishment. He was scheduled to receive his doctoral degree this spring.

He also served as the coordinator of the Cornell Public Service Center's GRASSHOPR, the Graduate Student School Outreach Program, which manages Cornell graduate students' teaching of mini-courses in area K-12 classrooms.
