Johnson jumps to No. 7 on Bloomberg Businessweek's B-school ranking

The Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management has leapt into the top ranks of American business schools. Bloomberg Businessweek ranks Johnson No. 7 in the nation. In 2010, the last year the magazine ranked business schools, Johnson came in at No. 13. According to the magazine's methodology, Johnson improved its ranking with high scores in student satisfaction and faculty research.

"While we focus on excellence as a school rather than ranking numbers, we do believe that recognition such as this for our students, our staff and our faculty is something of which we can all be very proud," said Douglas Stayman, associate dean for MBA programs at Johnson. "The contributions of faculty, staff and students resulted in 'A+' ratings across all five rankings categories, and our faculty's research productivity resulted in Johnson being ranked No. 2 for intellectual capital."

The categories in which all MBA programs are rated are: career services, teaching quality, critical thinking, leadership skills and caliber of classmates.

Bloomberg Businessweek -- which also produced a "Best B-School Road Trip" video about Johnson -- writes:

"Johnson at Cornell is an intense, collaborative Ivy League business school in one of the most beautiful and inviting cities in the United States. Consistently ranked as one of the top business schools in the world, Johnson is distinguished by its cutting-edge teaching, warm and inclusive community feel, real-world business immersions, small class sizes, excellent job placement, fiercely loyal alumni, international flavor (with an international enrollment of 33 percent), and demonstrated leadership in recruiting women and minorities. Johnson's graduates consistently succeed in every industry and geography in the world."

Among the Johnson statistics Bloomberg Businessweek sites:

  • Enrollment: 643;
  • Average starting salary: $106,800; and
  • Job offers within 3 months of graduation: 92 percent.
