New directors named in Campus Life reorganization

LeNorman J. Strong, assistant vice president for Student and Academic Services, has announced new directors in Campus Life's senior management team.

Joseph Burke is director of the new Residential Programs unit; Karen Muckstadt, of facilities management; Karen Brown, of marketing and communications; and Marty Rauker, of the new administrative services unit. In addition, M. Leslie Sadler, the assistant director for Faculty and Special Programs, will spearhead a revamped academic initiatives program.

Burke will oversee Residential Programs, which has been formed by combining the former Community Development, Graduate and Professional Student Housing, and Student Affairs and Diversity units within Campus Life. Residential Programs manages the entire living and learning experience of both undergraduate and graduate students living on campus.

He served as project director of the Office of Institutional Equity in the president's office at Ohio University for the past year and as director of residence life for 19 years before that. His 30-year career includes service as an administrator and faculty member at Ohio University, University of Toledo and Villanova University. Burke earned a B.A. in political science from Saint Francis College, a Master of Education degree in guidance, counseling and college student personnel and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Ohio University.

As director of facilities management, Muckstadt is responsible for the operations and maintenance of 46 undergraduate and graduate student residential facilities, four primary dining halls and three community centers on campus as well as other Campus Life building projects, including office space. Previously, she worked for nearly 20 years at the Thomas Group in Ithaca. She has a B.S. in interior design from Colorado State University.

Brown joined Campus Life in 1998 and has most recently served as marketing manager for Campus Life. Prior to Cornell, she served in a number of senior management positions for the United Way. She has a B.S. from the University of Colorado-Boulder.

Rauker has worked with Campus Life for six years as a special assistant to the assistant vice president for Student and Academic Services with oversight for human resources, administrative services, external relations and facilities. He now heads up Campus Life's administrative services, which now includes staff handling special projects, human resources, marketing and communications, student employment, staff training and professional development, and external relations and development.

Rauker has a B.A. from Ithaca College and a Masters of Public Affairs degree from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Sadler, will spearhead an expansion of the Faculty in Residence, Faculty Fellows and Dining Discussion Groups programs. She brings 15 years of student affairs experience to her position, having served in relevant positions at four other schools. She has a B.A. from Wake Forest University, a Master of Education degree in college student personnel from the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Virginia.
