Report on campus code, judicial system sent to University Assembly

The Codes and Judicial Committee (CJC) delivered its report on proposed changes to the Campus Code of Conduct and the university's judicial system to the University Assembly (UA) March 6.

Among the committee's recommendations:

The committee also affirmed the UA's significant role in the process and noted that a number of issues with the code -- including the need to rewrite it for brevity and clarity -- and certain structural, jurisdictional and procedural changes recommended in the 2006 Krause report would benefit from a more thorough examination and review. The committee is asking the UA to extend and expand its charge to consider and deliberate the specifics of these issues.

Extensive revisions to the judicial system and the code were proposed in an April 2006 report by former Cornell Judicial Administrator Barbara Krause, now at Skidmore College.

To make its recommendations, the CJC requested input and collected comments from the Cornell community in writing and at public forums from Nov. 22, 2006, to Feb. 15, 2007. The UA has been asked to submit recommendations to President David Skorton by April 1.
