From Big Red to the big game: Kevin Boothe '06 to play in Super Bowl XLII
By Daniel Aloi
Cornell alumnus Kevin Boothe '06 will see action in Super Bowl XLII with the New York Giants, who face the New England Patriots Feb. 3 in Glendale, Ariz.
Boothe is a key member of the Giants' special teams as a backup offensive guard. He was part of the field goal team that blocked for Lawrence Tynes' 47-yard field goal in overtime Jan. 20 against the Green Bay Packers, in a 23-20 victory to claim the NFC championship.
Last season, as an NFL rookie, the former All-Ivy offensive lineman was a starter for the Oakland Raiders. The current Giants roster boasts three Ivy League alumni, with fullback Jim Finn (Penn) and linebacker Zak DeOssie (Brown).
While playing for the Big Red, Boothe was a consensus All-American and three-time first-team All-Ivy pick. Boothe started all 10 games leading the offensive line at left tackle in his senior season. In 2005, he was named to the All-America first team by the American Football Coaches Association and to the second team by the Sports Network and Associated Press.
The Plantation, Fla., native was the first All-America selection at Cornell since John Hansen in 1998. Boothe was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy pick in each of his final two years and was the fourth Cornell player to earn first-team all-league honors three times, joining Ed Marinaro (running back, 1969-70-71), Bob Lally (linebacker, 1971-72-73) and Chad Levitt (running back, 1994-95-96), according to Cornell Athletics.
