Emergency notification system will be tested May 27
Cornell will test its emergency notification systems beginning at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 27. These systems include the sirens/public address (PA) system and a staff-only (no faculty or students) test of voice and text messaging.
During 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., while officials calibrate and test the siren/PA system, tones and words may be audible. At 12:15 p.m., the siren/PA system will issue an alert tone, then a 25-second broadcast saying that it is a test, followed by another alert tone for 60 seconds. A sample of the alert tone can be accessed at http://www.epr.cornell.edu.
Staff members who have registered to receive emergency notification will receive either a test text message (with a caller ID of 839-60) or a voice message (with a caller ID of 607-254-4636) saying that it is a test.
When you hear the sirens and receive the test message, you need do nothing.
Cornell's emergency notification system is a critical component of the university's emergency response. It is recommended that all staff who have not yet entered emergency contact information do so. Employees should go to https://ee.ohr.cornell.edu and click on the Personal Information tab and select the links for EMN phone number and emergency contact(s).
