Apparel design students show off semester's work

Formalwear, fabric patterns, product design research posters, fashion art and other student works took center stage at Martha Van Rensselaer (MVR) Hall when the Department of Fiber Science & Apparel Design (FSAD) hosted its annual end-of-semester show Dec. 7.

Dozens of students from nine FSAD classes -- from Introduction to Fashion Design to the upper-level Human Factors: Anthropometrics and Apparel -- displayed their creations throughout the building to faculty, staff and students in the College of Human Ecology.

Attendees also viewed the initial designs and proposed contents of a time capsule created by Jack Elliott, associate professor of design and environmental analysis. The capsule, comprising five interconnected nodes (one for each of the college's academic departments), will lie inside a permanent lighted glass display in the floor of the new Human Ecology Building, scheduled to open in spring 2011.

Ted Boscia is assistant director of communications for the College of Human Ecology.
