Emergency notification system will be tested Oct. 10

Cornell will test its emergency notification system Oct. 10 at 12:10 p.m. The system includes a siren/public address (PA) system, voice and text messaging, as well as video monitors throughout the campus.

The siren/PA system test will begin with an alert tone followed by the broadcast of a 25-second message saying: "This is a test. This is a test of the emergency notification system. This is only a test." The message will be followed by an alert tone that will sound for 60 seconds.

When you hear the sirens and receive the test message, you need do nothing. To minimize disruption, the test has been timed to begin when classes change.

Students, faculty and staff who have registered for messaging will receive a text message from sender ID 55629 and/or a call from 607-254-4636. Again, there is no need to respond to the test.

All students, faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to verify their emergency messaging information and update as needed at least 24 hours prior to the test. To register for messaging, or for more information, visit the Cornell Emergency Mass Notification System website.
