Melvin accepts vice provost position at University at Buffalo

Lee Melvin, Cornell associate vice provost for enrollment since September 2011, will be leaving the university, effective July 5, to assume the position of vice provost for enrollment at the University at Buffalo (UB).

“We appreciate Lee’s contributions to Cornell’s enrollment processes and congratulate him on this next step in his career advancement,” said Cornell Vice Provost Barbara Knuth.

At Cornell, Melvin led universitywide undergraduate admissions, enrollment management and financial aid programs. During his tenure, Cornell realized a 10 percent increase in undergraduate applications, reaching a record high for the Class of 2017, while admissions selectivity improved and diversity enrollment rose. His efforts to improve internal and external customer service resulted in implementing online admissions enrollment deposits and the electronic delivery of financial aid award notifications.

“My colleagues at Cornell are outstanding professionals, and it was a pleasure working with them to accomplish our university enrollment goals," Melvin said. “I wish Cornell continued success in attracting and enrolling academically talented and diverse students.”

As vice provost at UB, Melvin will oversee admissions, financial aid and enrollment processes across undergraduate and graduate sectors, the university registrar, student accounts, student response center and the student information system.
